2025 Evan Cousineau Cup Recap: Tsunami Strong Across Every Age Group

ree

This past weekend, Rancho Tsunami Water Polo Club made waves at the 2025 Evan Cousineau Cup, one of Southern California’s most meaningful and competitive tournaments. The event, held annually in memory of Evan Cousineau, honors a young athlete whose passion, courage, and love for the game continue to inspire the water polo community.

Evan Cousineau was a talented player from Orange County who tragically passed away at a young age in 2006. In his honor, the Evan Cousineau Memorial Foundation was created to celebrate his life and give back through youth sports scholarships, charitable work, and community engagement. The tournament embodies Evan’s spirit — promoting teamwork, perseverance, and joy in competition — and our Tsunami athletes truly carried that energy into the pool this weekend.

🏆 12u Boys – Bringing Home the Hardware!

Huge congrats to our 12u Boys for earning 3rd place at this year’s EC Cup! These boys battled hard all weekend, showing incredible heart, teamwork, and growth every game. Their focus and determination set the tone for the weekend — a true testament to their hard work in practice and dedication to one another. Keep grinding, boys — this is just the beginning! 💪💙

🌊 10u Coed – First Tournament Milestone!

A special shoutout to our 10u Coed team, who competed in their first-ever tournament! Despite being short-handed, these little waves showed heart, hustle, and tons of potential. Under Coach Kayla’s leadership, they learned, laughed, and fought for every possession. The foundation is being built, and the future is bright for this group of rising athletes! ☀️🙌

💥 14u Boys – Setting the Standard

Our 14u Boys continue to dominate across the Inland Empire and beyond with strong wins over Foothill, Rose Bowl, and Pride. This team is playing fast, disciplined, and together — setting the bar high for what it means to be Tsunami Strong. Big things are ahead for this crew as they continue to raise their level every weekend! 🔥👏

🌊 12u Coed – First Steps, Big Dreams

Coach Jason led our brand-new 12u Coed team into their first tournament experience at the EC Cup! There were plenty of lessons learned and moments of growth, and we know these young athletes are just getting started. With Jason’s guidance and the team’s enthusiasm, the future looks bright for our next generation of Tsunami players. 💙💪

🙏 Remembering Ben Carlson

During the weekend, several of our athletes — Alayna (10u), Charlotte (16u), Alex, Katie, and Elle — took time to visit the Ben Carlson statue in Newport Beach. Ben Carlson was a Newport Beach Lifeguard who made the ultimate sacrifice in 2014 while rescuing another person in the ocean. His heroism inspired the creation of the Ben Carlson Memorial & Scholarship Foundation, which supports water safety, leadership, and ocean awareness within the aquatic community.

At Rancho Tsunami, we are proud to celebrate Ben’s legacy and his commitment to others — values that mirror everything we stand for as a club. 🌊💙

💪 14u Boys Black – Growth Every Game

Our 14u Boys Black squad continues to put in the work every day, taking on top-level teams and using every game as an opportunity to grow. Their progress is evident each weekend, thanks to Coach Trace’s steady leadership and focus on long-term development. Keep pushing, boys — the effort is paying off! 🙌

The 2025 Evan Cousineau Cup was more than a tournament — it was a reminder of the heart, resilience, and community that make our sport so special. Congratulations to all our athletes, coaches, and families who represented Rancho Tsunami Water Polo Club with pride and passion. 🌊💙
